    themes and programme content

The program will use the inspiration of both historical and contemporary Toronto artists to inform the lesson planning. Each class the students will see images, and learn the history and techniques of a specific local Toronto artist. Then the students will use this inspiration from the lesson to create their own artwork in the “style” of the artist. At the end of the school year, the students will: plan, curate and market their own art show in our location at 201 Niagara Street.

    teaching methods

The Walnut Studios Art Educator will use a methodologies which will allow for the children to create and express their own individuality to their utmost capability. This will include best practices in arts education which reflect: open ended choice making, an encouragement of uniqueness, fostering of expression, and a focus on process rather than product based lesson planning. The lessons will use the art making process as a vehicle to promote qualities of group camaraderie, mutual respect, positive self esteem and creative thinking skills.
